Elon Musk has been on a spree of making wild claims over the past year, but some of the things he said recently stood out — including his beliefs that the upcoming Tesla Optimus Gen 2 humanoid robot will be able to babysit your kids.
We’re not sure how many individual Optimus consumers, if any, will want a humanoid to take care of their kids.
Sure, Musk’s notion aligns with the inevitable and catastrophic future everyone imagines from seeing movies set in the future, but how soon is too soon?

Tesla Optimus can do a lot, and Musk has a plan
To provide some context, Musk discussed many things during a Tesla shareholders meeting last week as part of his ‘Tesla Master Plan 4’.
It was quite lengthy, but mostly, ‘cars will drive themselves, and humanoid robots will do everything.’
You certainly get the idea here.
At first, the Tesla CEO went on to explain the current situation with humanoid robots.
He basically predicted that we would have 20 billion humanoid robots performing tasks in no time.
Further, Tesla wants to capture the market with its Optimus robot by having a 10% share.
That’s certainly ambitious, but Elon Musk, as he usually does, didn’t stop there.
He said the new iteration of the Tesla Optimus robot could realistically do anything for you.
That includes babysitting your kids.

During the meeting, he went on to say that Optimus “can be your companion”, or even a teacher.
We’ve seen Optimus performing ‘useful tasks’ and setting records, but this is new, even for humanoids.
Yet again, Musk didn’t stop there and provided a Star Wars reference to the company’s shareholders.
“Like, who doesn’t want a C3PO, you know? You know, but a C3PO plus R2D2 plus, you know, plus plus. It would be pretty awesome. I think everyone in the world is going to want one. Like, literally everyone.”
After the supposedly reassuring pitch, Elon Musk seems to be optimistic, to say the least.
Whether or not that becomes a reality remains to be seen.
